The Vacuum Cleaner: Mental

  by Rachel Fox

The Metropolitan Police call him a Domestic Extremist.
The NHS have labelled him as Schizophrenic, Bi-Polar and more recently Borderline Personality Disorder.

‘A real and present threat to the safe running of our lawful business’ is how E.ON described him at the Royal Courts of Justice.

He prefers the term Mental.

For the last ten years The Vacuum Cleaner, a cultural resistance of one, has used creative tactics (both legal and illegal) to mock, disturb and disrupt concentrations of power. Now, after being both inpatient and outlaw, he presents an autobiographical performance told through medical records, police files and court injunctions collected through the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts.

The Vacuum Cleaner is an Arts Admin Associate Artist. Mental is put on in association with the Barbican and is part of the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award finalists’ showcase.
