Maddalena Petrosino

biography

Maddalena Petrosino was born in Rome in 1981.

She is a photographer based in Rome. After graduating in Fine Art in Rome she studied photography and received a degree from the European Design Institute (IED) in 2004. She also spent time in London attending photographic courses.

In 2009, she collaborated with the Iranian photographer Arash Radpour in the project “State Specific”. She has exhibited in Rome and internationally.

After this project, she experimented with the perception of reality; trying to capture the moment between the camera and it’s subject. In New York she begins to discover her own talents as a photographer, and discover her “self” through love, and a kind of personal Freudian therapy. She is the narrator, speaking to an imaginary and undefined reader/viewer as she composes her memoirs, as she recounts her past, and discovers her own secrets.

Words on Maddalena

Maddalena Petrosino is a photographer based in Rome, and her work is an enigma until you realise the priority she transparently gives to emotions, and how she gives her heart in all she does. She seeks to rediscover what she lost along the way from childhood. In the country one cloudy day she came across a very ordinary shed that somehow reminded her of her early days, connecting mind, body, and soul. The owner of the land, almost 40 years old, is dressed childishly and begins running about like a mad guy. It takes her back to when she was six years old. JAMES BREWER
